7 Movies about Social Networking & Business

By now I’m sure you’ve heard the story of Mark Zuckerberg and how he started Facebook hits theaters October 1st. You probably have also heard “Greed is Good” coming from your TV and seen that Michael Douglas has reprised his role as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. But you probably haven’t heard about all 7 Upcoming Social Media and Business Movies you should know about.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
In Theaters Now
“Greed is good, now it seems it’s legal”
Gordon Gekko is out of prison and trying to get back to his former glory. In the trailer they poke fun at the “Zach Morris” phone and I hope to see them integrate technology and social media into the plot line as more evidence of how times have changed. With Oliver Stone directing Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeauf, this movie should prove to be a worthwhile watch and a solid follow up to the original Wall Street.
The Social Network
In Theaters Now
“You don’t get 500 friends without making a few enemies”
This movie is already being called the movie of the year by Rolling Stones and obviously fans and critics alike are excited to take a more in depth look at the founding and building of Facebook. Keep in mind that this is not a documentary and not endorsed by Mark Zuckerberg or Facebook. I bet that they take some liberties, but it should be entertaining either way.
Freakonomics
In Theaters October 1st 2010
“Six rogue filmmakers exploring the hidden side of everything”
The same guys who brought you Super Size Me and The King of Kong have now done a documentary based on Freakonomics, the groundbreaking book by journalist Stephen Dubner and economist Steven Levitt. Marketers, economists, and laymen alike should love this film that makes you rethink assumptions you took for granted.
The Company Men
In Theaters October 22nd 2010
“I’m a 37 year old loser!”
What an awesome idea to make a movie showing people overcome adversity through this recession. An upper-middle class manager is laid off and struggles to re-find his place in the economy. With Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper, and Maria Bello to name a few, mixed with the uplifting message of the movie, I think that this will be a hit!
Horrible Bosses
In Theaters July 29th 2011
This comedy is about three friends who decide to murder their bosses because they blame them for standing in the way of true happiness. There is not a lot of information out about the movie yet, but with Jennifer Aniston, Justin Bateman, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx and many other A list stars, this movie worth looking for next summer.
Google Movie
Release TBD
Groundswell Production has purchased the movie rights to Ken Auletta’s bestseller “Googled: The End of the World as We Know It” and rumors have been circulating that they will turn it into a full length film. With all the controversy surrounding Google, it feels eerily reminiscent of another internet titan on this list, but only time will tell.
TwitPic
Release TBD
There have been preliminary discussions for a reality based TV show/documentary on Noah Everett and how he founded TwitPic. It is still really early in talks and no rights have been purchased, but I think it would be cool to see a documentary on such a smart young entrepreneur.
Honorable Mention: The Other Guys
In Theaters Now
If you haven’t seen it yet it is hilarious, but it also deals with some real issues of corporate greed and corruption. I don’t want to give anything away because I recommend you see it, but watch all the credits at the end. They go into some statistics and specific numbers dealing with everything from Golden Parachutes, AIG, Enron and much more.
